The BHU bicentric bipolar prosthesis in fracture neck femur in active elderly
نویسندگان
چکیده
BACKGROUND 55 BHU bicentric bipolar hemiarthroplasties were reviewed after a mean follow up of 4 years (range 1-5 years). Patients with displaced subcapital fractures were selected for operation on the basis of good mobility before the fracture. Object of the study was to see the efficacy of BHU bipolar prostheses and functional outcome. RESULTS There were no incidences of dislocation. Modified Harris hip scoring system scoring system was used which included sitting crosslegged and squatting in view of the sociocultural needs of the patients of Indian subcontinent. Modified Harris hip scoring system 89% had a good or excellent result and 94% had no or only occasional pain. Majority of the patients returned to their prefracture activity. CONCLUSION Thus at follow up of 4 year the BHU bicentric bipolar prosthesis has been shown to be a good option for intracapsular fractures of neck femur with encouraging results.

Comparative study in surgical outcome of intracapsular fracture neck of femur in active elderly patients treated with hemiarthroplasty with Austin Moore's and bipolar prosthesis.
Fracture neck of femur is most commonly encountered fractures in elderly population. Hemiarthroplasty is generally considered to be the treatment of choice in most active elderly patients. However, there is inadequate evidence to support the choice between unipolar or bipolar prosthesis. This study was conducted to analyze the outcome regarding pain, hip function, complication and acetabular er...

INTRODUCTION The present study was performed to compare cemented total hip replacement (THR) with cemented bipolar prosthesis in the treatment of displaced fracture neck of femur in elderly patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS This prospective study included 47 patients of greater than 60 years of age and having fracture of neck of femur, out of which 25 patients were managed by cemented bipolar p...
متن کاملTreatment of Femoral Neck Fractures: Unipolar Versus Bipolar Hemiarthroplasty
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Intracapsular femoral neck fractures are common in the elderly population. To avoid the poor outcome of internal fixation and for early mobilization, hemiarthroplasty is performed. However, there is inadequate evidence to support the choice between unipolar or bipolar hemiarthroplasty. The aim of this study was to compare the outcome of unipolar with the bipolar prosthe...
متن کاملDisplaced intra-capsular neck femur fractures in elderly: Austin Moore’s prosthesis or Cemented Modular Bipolar Prosthesis
Introduction: With various options available like unipolar, bipolar hemiarthroplasty or total hip arthroplasty, it would be wise to choose hemiarthroplasty as it is a procedure with a short operating time with lesser morbidity for elderly patients with displaced intra-capsular neck femur fractures .This study is aimed primarily at comparing the functional results obtained after a hemiarthroplas...
متن کاملUnipolar versus Bipolar Uncemented Modular Hemiarthroplasty in Patients with Displaced Femoral Neck Fractures: a Three-year Follow-up
Objective: Fractures of neck of femur are common fractures in the elderly. To keep up an imperative distance from the poor results of internal fixation and early ambulation of patients, hemiarthroplasty is performed. There is a lacking evidence to bolster the choice between unipolar or bipolar hemiarthroplasty, let alone the modularity of modern components. The objective of this study was to as...
